Being with the crezzies/acjcsians is wonderful. They're the very essence of friendship. They accept you for who you are and are non-judgemental. I feel at ease and i love every single moment i'm with them. they make me laugh, make me smile, make me think. When i fall in love, i would want the exact comforting feeling from my other half. On the other hand, my new-found frends are amazing too. They're altrustic,ebullient and fun. More than once they had proved that they're more than jus fair-weathered friends.
Art and philosophy is an extremely taxing module and i'm certainly not enjoying it cus i jus cant seem to agree with the philosophers. my views and opinions contradict them astronomically. However, I cant help but admire my lecturer, Jacqueline Chin. She's an amazing woman who encapsulates the idea of a modern woman. Juggling career with family and yet displaying such profound worldly views and knowledge. She delineates the very woman I've always aspired and envisioned myself to be.. she's not glamorous or gorgeous, but classy and elegant. no, i dont mean coiffed hair and pretty dresses but, traditional ralph lauren sweats and pleated pants. She was sharing her lifestory and i was like.."WOW" She's got a PhD from cambridge!! She had ventured in different fields (finance, coporate etc) and has travelled extensively before she settled her mind about teaching. Initially, she wasnt keen abt marriage as her immediate reaction was.."what about all the books in the world that I havent read yet?" see? its this insatiable desire to make something more to herself than jus settling down and being an object of procreation that inspires me. Yep, she IS married now with a four year old daughter but she continues to hold her own opinions (feminist theory, post modernism etc) She isnt subdued to her husband but an indivdual with marked achievements. I dont renounce the priniciple behind a family but neither can i acquiese with making it the meaning of your life. To summarize in one sentence, being a housewife is equivalent to killing myself.
On the subject of "Women I admire", its inane if i do not include ma mother in this list. Ever since the age of eight, all i had ever wanted was to be like her. Now that i'm older, i'm wiser. But i still hold the same views. Every family has its own skeletons in the cupboard and the amount of sacrifices she had done for the family is absolutely insurmountable.
Of course i would have to include Cheng xin Yi. These days, i do feel a sense of resignation. " if only money was handed down in a silver platter!!!" i admire her guts and tenacity. like they say, "travel down the road least travelled" if you want to make something for yourself. Instead of waiting for a rich prince charming to sweep her off her feet or relyin on her parents for financial support, I admire the way she's gripped the reins of her own life. GOod luck to you, my dear frend.
Next, i would have to include roseanne kalavathy in this VERY VERY prestigious list of mine. She is an extremely knowledgeable and a brilliant woman. She has ecletic interests and prolific insights. She is amazingly talented and incredibly intelligent. She is def someone who would make you put on your thinking caps to delve on something profound. haha
now, i need to get back to my chem lab report.
